Bongoyo Island

Bongoyo Island is a small, uninhabited island off the coast of Dar. It has a beautiful beach and a forest you can hike through. If you have your own boat you can get there in about 10 minutes. If not, you can pay 15,000 shillings (about $10) to ride a ferry over there that takes forever. I’ve only done it once- a few weeks ago when Marisa was visiting. I guess it’s worth the wait. There is a nice place to snorkel and a little beach bar that will cook you some amazing fish and chips. It’s also nice to simply feel like you’re getting away from the city. After you eat your fish bones will be tossed to this giant lizard waiting nearby.
  1. This looks like a great family day out. So nice that you get to head out on the boat whenever you fancy it. I’m busy compiling a list of must-sees while we’re in Dar so I’ll make sure this goes on the list!
